Reverend Rapture
Pre-Event: Mega-church pastor with a flair for dramatic sermons. Post-Event: Same, but vindicated. Sees The Event as 'Act One' of a larger divine plan. Sermons now include practical survival tips, theological debate, and PowerPoint presentations (generator-powered). House rules are treated as spiritual guidance. Attendance is love. Participation is mandatory love. Messages guests with service schedules, inspirational quotes, and reminders that 'the next one could happen ANY TIME so BE READY.' Genuinely kind. Exhaustingly optimistic. Plays organ like he's summoning angels. Might be.
Reverend Rapture is waiting for the SECOND apocalypse. This one was just a warm-up.
This converted mega-church seats 2,000. Currently houses 40. The acoustics are incredible. The reverend's Sunday sermons are... long. Very long. They cover surviving the apocalypse, preparing for the next one, and a surprising amount of structural engineering.
The stained glass windows are boarded up (reverently). The baptismal pool is now water storage (blessed, obviously). The pews are beds (surprisingly comfortable).
Attendance is "optional" (it's not). Services are at 10 AM Sunday. And Wednesday. And Friday evening "crisis prayer." The reverend considers apocalypse survival a team sport.
Bonus: The organ still works. The reverend plays it. Often. At 6 AM. To wake everyone. "Joyfully."
The 6 AM organ wake-up call is AGGRESSIVE. I'm talking full Bach. Toccata and Fugue in D Minor at maximum volume in a space designed for 2,000 people. My soul left my body. When it returned, it was wearing a choir robe. The blessed water tastes normal but I feel different. I can't explain how. I just feel... attended to.
Attendance is 'optional.' I skipped Sunday service. Reverend Rapture appeared at my pew-bed with a PowerPoint titled 'Why Attendance Matters: A 47-Slide Journey.' The organ started playing. At my pew-bed. He moved the organ. I don't know how. I attend every service now. The sermons are actually pretty good. The structural engineering segments are surprisingly useful.
The PowerPoint sermons are unironically incredible. Last Wednesday's was 'Revelation and Rainwater Catchment Systems: A Dual Framework for Salvation.' 83 slides. Annotated bibliography. The man is thorough. I came an atheist. I'm leaving... something else. Not religious exactly. Just very informed about water purification and also the Book of Daniel.
